Old Fashioned Buttercream Icing

A classic!


1 cup of salt free butter, room temperature
1/2 cup milk, room temperature
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons of vanilla or flavor of your choice
2 pounds of powdered sugar


Mix all ingredients in large bowl at low speed until smooth.
For best results sift powdered sugar. To obtain pure white icing, use white vegetable shortening instead of butter (Crisco) and use clear vanilla. This frosting can be colored and additional flavors added such as 1/2 teaspoon of almond.
